Stewed lentils is a typical and traditional dish from the province of Avila (Spain). The dish became famous throughout the town and gradually spread throughout the peninsula. This dish was adapted to new ingredients and new meats. It is a dish that is served hot and usually in the winter season. This recipe, is within the easy cooking recipes and vegan food.

With Monsieur Cuisine, Stewed Lentils


350 gr. of lentils
2 large potatoes
60 ml. of white wine
1 carrot
Half a green pepper
2 cloves of garlic
Half an onion
4 tablespoons of virgin olive oil
Sweet paprika, bay leaves and salt to taste

Instructions for use 45 minutes

1. Peel and cut the onion and put it inside the glass together with the 2 cloves of garlic and 4 spoonfuls of olive oil. Settle for 5 seconds at speed 6

2. Then we peel the potatoes, the half green pepper, the carrot and put it in the glass. Also introduce the lentils, the white wine, 2 pinches of sweet paprika, 4 bay leaves, salt to taste and 900 ml. of water. At this point we program reverse gear, for 40 minutes, speed 1 and temperature 100 º C

3. Once it’s finished, we serve it.

Specifications of Braised Lentils

Once the recipe is finished, if we see that the lentils are a little hard, we can repeat the last program for 5 or 10 minutes.

The recipes for stewed lentils can be applied in many ways. We can add chorizo, black pudding, bacon or other foods that we want. We will add them in step number 2. If we want to add tomato or another vegetable we will introduce it in step number 1.

If we want to add chorizo, we will add red pepper. This is why the typical dish of stewed lentils with chorizo is red.
